Health Minister Confirms 33 1Malaysia Clinics Will Be Shut Down

They will be closed in stages and will not affect surrounding residents.

Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad announced today, 3 September that that 33 1Malaysia clinics will be closed down

Dr Dzulkefly announced this during a press conference after launching the National Dental Health Week at Kuala Lumpur City Hall, as reported by Malaysiakini

"The closure of the 33 clinics will be phased out and the delivery of health services to surrounding residents will not be affected as there are health facilities such as hospitals and other health facilities nearby", he said. 

Dr Dzulkefly added that the remaining 313 1Malaysia Clinics in the country will be rebranded to Community Clinics

He also clarified that every Community Clinic will be supervised by certified health professionals. Healthcare providers, pharmacists as well as nurses will be assigned at every clinic as part of the revamp.

Currently, there are 346 1Malaysia clinics nationwide

This initiative was started by Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak back in 2010.

The closure and rebranding of the 1Malaysia clinics were part of three thrust issues concerning the Health Ministry

The three reports were about the sexual harassment cases involving graduate medical officers (PPS), the drastic 300% increase proposed for consultation fees from as well as the revamp of the 1Malaysia Clinics.

KKM is awaiting the final report from the Independent Investigation Committee on the sexual harassment case and it is expected to to be tabled to the Cabinet in the next meeting, according to The Star
