If you rely on the Kelana Jaya LRT line for your daily commute, you might want to start planning ahead

Some stations will be opening later than usual on selected dates starting this 9 August until 22 November.

According to Bernama, Prasarana Malaysia Berhad's group chief operating officer Dr Prodyut Dutt said the disruptions are part of a phased upgrade to the LRT's signalling system, which has been running on pretty outdated tech.

The system overhaul is aimed at improving safety, reliability, and overall efficiency on the line, something many commuters will welcome after previous major service breakdowns.

So, how will this affect you?

The works will be carried out in three phases, but it's Phases 2 and 3 that will affect train operations.

On certain weekends and public holidays, selected stations will only open at 9am instead of the usual 6am to allow for real-time testing of the new system.

Here's the breakdown:

Phase 2 (9 August – 14 September)

Affected stations:

  • 9, 10, 16, 17, 23 August: KLCC, Ampang Park, Damai, Dato' Keramat, Jelatek
  • 5, 6, 7, 14 September: Setiawangsa, Sri Rampai, Wangsa Maju, Taman Melati, Gombak

Phase 3 (11 October – 22 November)

Affected stations:

  • 11, 12, 18, 19 October: Lembah Subang, Kelana Jaya, Taman Bahagia, Taman Paramount, Asia Jaya, Taman Jaya
  • 1, 15, 16, 22 November: Universiti, Kerinchi, Abdullah Hukum, Bangsar, KL Sentral, Pasar Seni, Masjid Jamek, Dang Wangi, Kampung Baru, KLCC, Ampang Park

Stations that aren't listed will operate as usual.

To make things a little easier, Prasarana is rolling out free shuttle buses and vans to connect the affected stations during the delays

There will also be extra staff, auxiliary police, and Rapid KL Troopers on-site to help guide commuters, reported Bernama.

Token vending machines at affected stations will only be operational from 8.45am on those days to avoid confusion, so take note.

All in all, over 27,000 passengers are expected to be affected by the changes, so it's best to plan your routes in advance and keep an eye on Rapid KL's website or social media for the latest updates.
