Hannah Thomas, the daughter of former Malaysian attorney-general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas, is contesting a seat in Australia's parliament

According to The Straits Times, she is running in the Grayndler constituency as a member of the Greens party, where one of her opponents is current Australian prime minister, Anthony Albanese.

Grayndler is an electoral division in the Australian House of Representatives, located in the Inner West region of Sydney, New South Wales.

At just 30 years old, Thomas is challenging Albanese for a seat he has held since 1996

"It's an insane thing to be doing, but it's also extremely exciting," she shared in an interview with The Feed SBS.

Born in Malaysia, Thomas migrated to Australia as an international student in 2009. Today, she is the youngest candidate contesting in Grayndler.

As a lawyer, activist, and advocate for progressive change, Thomas is confident in appealing to younger voters.

She is campaigning on key issues such as the genocide in Palestine, tackling Australia's housing and cost of living crisis, and protecting refugee rights.

"I'm lucky to have grown up in a family with strong progressive values and have been involved in community organising and activism for years, on issues such as refugee rights, the climate crisis, integrity in politics, and freedom for Palestine.

"I love the Inner West. As an immigrant, I've found the people in our community to be some of the warmest, kindest, and most generous people I've met in this country. They deserve someone who will fight for them and who genuinely represents their values," reads her profile on The Greens website.

The Australian federal election will be held on 3 May to elect members of the 48th Parliament.

Voters will decide all 150 seats in the House of Representatives and 40 out of 76 seats in the Senate.
