Staff members of a hair salon in Kulai, Johor have shaved their heads bald as an apology after giving a child a bad haircut

In a video posted last week, four male employees of Solasta Professional Hair Salon are seen shaving their heads, while a female co-founder cuts her hair short in tears.

The team then bowed together in apology.

One of the co-founders, who also shaved his head, said the team deeply regretted the incident.

"As a gesture of apology, our Kulai outlet will waive charges for customers who are dissatisfied with their haircut until the end of November.

"We will also be visiting orphanages and old folks homes to offer free haircuts," he said.

On Monday, 24 November, they posted another video of their employees giving haircuts to children at an orphanage.

Below is the video of the employees shaving their heads:

The salon's response comes after a Facebook post, in which a mother shared four photos of her son's haircut, urging others to avoid the salon like a "minefield"

Speaking to Sin Chew Daily, one of the co-founders, surnamed Zhang (transliteration), dismissed online claims that the team's head-shaving gesture was a marketing stunt.

Zhang noted that one of the team members who shaved his head had just gotten married with the new hairstyle and would be holding his wedding ceremony at the end of the month, emphasising that the act was definitely not for publicity.

"No one would shave their head for no reason; it takes courage," he said.

Meanwhile, James, a salon owner who criticised Solasta Professional's elaborate response to the incident, questioned whether the gesture was genuine crisis management or "emotional manipulation"

He told SAYS that Solasta Professional's actions ultimately downplayed the mother's initial complaint.

Although she had reportedly accepted their apology, he said the salon's overreaction dragged the customer back into the spotlight.

James added that the gesture could send the wrong message to others in the industry, as customers might start expecting extreme measures, such as head shaving, for mistakes.

Such actions, he said, can create unnecessary stress for hairstylists, especially those who are just starting out.

When SAYS reached out to a Solasta Professional representative for comment on James' criticism, the salon declined to respond, stating it reserves all legal rights against any inaccurate claims about the establishment.
