A tragedy recently occurred in Shanghai when a grandma accidentally dropped a baby three floors up after losing balance while going down a mall escalator
The horrifying incident was captured by the CCTV cameras of the Wu Yue Plaza Department Store in the Qingpu District, and was shared by New China TV.
The CCTV footage showed the grandmother approaching the escalator with the 4-month old infant being carried in her left arm
As she steps on the escalator, she loses her balance and stumbles toward the right edge of the escalator. She throws out both arms to catch herself against the handrail, but inadvertently loses her grip on the baby. She dropped the baby accidentally, who tumbles over the side. The woman makes a clear, desperate effort to catch him, but it's too late.
Another woman walking close behind her, and a young girl in pink – believed to be the child's mother and sister – saw the incident.
The woman presumably the mother, clearly reaches down the escalator to reach the boy.
