Govt To Offer 30% Rebate To Concert Organisers If They Hire 30% Malaysian Workforce
The Communications Ministry acknowledged the economic benefits of large-scale concerts.
Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching has announced that the government will provide a 30% rebate to large-scale concert organisers in Malaysia
In a Facebook post last Saturday, 19 April, Teo stated that Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil introduced a new initiative known as the Concert and Event in Malaysia Incentives (CEMI) to support the concert and event industry.
She highlighted the industry's vital role in boosting the national economy, citing contributions such as ticket sales, accommodation and international arrivals.
According to Teo, there were 104 concerts in 2022, 335 in 2023, and 408 in 2024.
The CEIMI aims to welcome more concerts in Malaysia, specifically those with at least 15,000 attendees.

Below are the conditions for eligibility to receive the incentives:
— Organisers of concerts featuring international artistes can claim up to 30% of actual Malaysian spending, capped at RM1.5 million, provided they spend at least 20% locally and involve a workforce that is at least 30% Malaysian
— Organisers of concerts featuring local artistes can also claim up to 30% of eligible spending, capped at RM1 million, if at least 70% of their budget is spent locally
— An additional RM100,000 bonus will be awarded if the event reaches 60% ticket sales at least 30 days before the show, with added incentives for attracting international ticket buyers
Fahmi said the CEMI programme will be managed by MyCreative Ventures (MyCV) with the support of the Communications Ministry
"Only after the project is completed and the final report is approved will the rebate be fully disbursed," Bernama quoted him as saying.
