A 15-year-old female student was found dead in her hostel room at a private school in Sabah yesterday, 15 July

The Form Three student was found hanging in the room by the hostel warden, who had broken into the room at 6.45pm upon receiving no response to their calls, reported Harian Metro.

The school is located at Jalan Damai in Kota Marudu, a two-hour drive south from Kota Kinabalu.

Preliminary investigations by the police found no foul play in the girl's death

Kota Kinabalu district police chief ACP Habibi Majinji said the deceased was with four of her friends in the room prior to the incident.

"Shortly after, the friends left but later they returned to call the girl for a study session," he said when contacted by Free Malaysia Today.

"When they tried opening the door, they found that it was locked. Feeling something was amiss, the group asked for the warden's help."

"The warden knocked on the door, but there was no response. Thus, it led them to break the door and they found the victim hanging in the room," Habibi said.
