A fire broke out at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Baling, Kedah this morning, 21 November, engulfing the entire campus in thick smoke

According to Harian Metro, Baling fire and rescue station chief assistant fire Supt Zulkhairi Mat Tanjil said his department received information about the fire at about 10.46am when members of the public rushed to inform them in person.

"A team of Baling firefighters immediately headed to the location to extinguish the fire.

"The operation was also assisted by fire trucks from the Pengkalan Hulu fire and rescue station and the volunteer fire brigade," Zulkhairi said.

A 22-second video posted by Putrajaya member of parliament (MP) Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin shows thick smoke billowing from a burning room in a school block, while firefighters can be seen trying to extinguish the fire with a water hose.

Utusan Malaysia reported that the blaze damaged four classrooms and an office.

Since Kedah observes Friday and Saturday as the weekend, the school was empty today, and no students were in danger.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said he has instructed the Public Works Department (JKR) to assess the damage and structural safety, ensuring all precautions are in place before any repair or restoration work begins.
