The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has thanked the Malaysian government for investigating and arresting Zobaidul Amin, who is accused of international child sexual exploitation
In a statement yesterday, 5 March, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) said Malaysian police arrested Zobaidul in September 2022 before charging him with 13 counts related to the possession and production of child pornography.
The suspect was transferred from Malaysia to Alaska on 4 March to face charges related to his alleged abuse and exploitation of hundreds of minor victims in Alaska, other US states, and abroad.
"The impact of this case is that of international magnitude. It stands as one of the most prolific cases of alleged online child exploitation the US has ever seen," said US attorney Michael J Heyman for the District of Alaska.
"We are grateful for the steady, strong collaboration among the Justice Department's Office of International Affairs, law enforcement agencies, and Malaysian partners that made this transfer possible, enabling us to move forward and seek justice for victims."
FBI director Kash Patel also thanked the Malaysian government for assisting in the case.

When he was arrested, then-PDRM secretary Noorsiah Saaduddin said Zobaidul was suspected of using social media to communicate with children from the US, and coerced them into providing him with pornographic materials.
FBI worked with Malaysian police to arrest Zobaidul in Seremban in 2022, and its special agent Caitlin McAlister later testified during court proceedings, reported FMT.
In the US, Zobaidul faces a maximum penalty of 20 years to life in prison if convicted.
Besides child sexual exploitation, he also faces charges of cyberstalking, aggravated identity theft, and wire fraud in the US.
