Chinese actress Fan Bingbing will be conferred a Datukship this Sunday, 24 August
According to The Star, she will receive the honourary title during an investiture ceremony held in conjunction with the birthday of Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Mohd Ali Rustam.
Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh confirmed the conferment during an event yesterday, 21 August, describing it as a gesture of appreciation for Fan's role in promoting Melaka as a global tourism destination.
"She has helped catapult the historic city into the global tourism spotlight, and we deeply appreciate her efforts," he said.
It is understood that the X-Men: Days of Future Past actress will be awarded Datuk Kehormat, an honourary that carries the title 'Datuk'.
In May last year, Fan was named Melaka tourism ambassador, and in less than three months, the state received 1.2 billion searches online.
The 43-year-old actress will be in Malaysia this weekend not only for the investiture ceremony, but also to launch of her beauty products at Watsons outlets during an event at The Exchange TRX.

Fan will join Datuk Shah Rukh Khan and Datuk Jackie Chan, two other megastars who have received Malaysian honorary titles
Khan was awarded a Datukship by then Melaka Yang di-Pertua Negeri Melaka Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob in 2008, reported Malaysiakini.
He was the first foreign actor to be conferred the Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka (DMSM) award, in recognition of his contribution to boosting tourism in the state after filming two movies there.
Meanwhile, Chan received the Panglima Mahkota Wilayah (PMW) title in 2015 from the late Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Alhaj Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah.
The award was conferred for his efforts in promoting Malaysia, particularly Kuala Lumpur, to the world.
The Rush Hour actor filmed Police Story 3: Super Cop in the capital city in 1992.
