His several previous Facebook posts have also offended Muslim sensibilities, including a video of him singing a cover of the Azan

In the video, Tan, bare-chested and wearing sunglasses, plays the piano while singing a lyrically garbled version of the Azan – the Muslim call to prayer. Underneath the video, he has written: "Please don't badger me about the wrong lyrics … First, this is a cover, so creative modification is permitted. Second, I ain't a suicide bomber."

Watched over 400K times, [it prompted extremely strong reactions](http://says.com/my/news/alvin-tan-crosses-another-extreme-line-with-azan-cover), especially from Muslims. "Alvin Tan, shame on you!" one commented. "This is one of the [most] terrible insults I ever seen," another said. "Disgusting."

Others, though were more complimentary. "Good effort … I'm Muslim & I'm not angry," read one comment. "One day you will be one of us, brother."

On the other hand, the Rev. Deacon Dr Sherman Kuek OFS, Deacon of the Catholic Church in Malaysia, penned [an open letter to Alvin](http://says.com/my/news/an-open-letter-to-alvin-tan-by-sherman-kuek) for his "grossly disrespectful and utterly heinous act performed" by him in "bad will".

Currently, Alvin has been living in LA, California. He fled Malaysia more than a year ago in a move to seek political asylum in the US.
