An elderly couple drove all the way from Kuala Lumpur to Pengkalan Hulu, Perak, after being misled by a viral AI-generated video promoting a cable car attraction that doesn't actually exist
The journey, which takes approximately six hours by car, ended in disappointment when the couple discovered the "new" Kuak SkyRide in Kuak Hulu was entirely fictional.
According to a post on Threads, user @dyaaaaaaa._ recounted her disbelief when the couple, who had checked into a local hotel, asked her about the attraction they had come to experience.
"At first, I thought they were joking when they asked if I'd been on the cable car.
"They said they came all the way from KL just for it. I was stunned," she wrote.

"I told them the video was made using AI. But the aunty insisted it couldn't be fake as there was a reporter in the video," she said.
"The uncle even turned to his wife and asked, 'So, what do we do now?' I felt so sorry for them," she wrote.
When she asked if they had told their children about their trip, the couple said they were embarrassed to discuss it.

After being told that none of the people in the video were real, the aunty questioned, "How could they do this to people?"
The user ended her post with a reminder: "Please always check with your elderly travel-loving parents where they're going. Imagine travelling from KL to Perak for something that doesn't exist."
The AI-generated video — featuring realistic visuals, a news-style narration, and fake details about the 'Kuak SkyRide' in its captions — is still circulating on TikTok and Facebook. It shows a supposed reporter from a fake news station called 'TV Rakyat' interviewing tourists at the fictional new attraction.
