The president, at first, didn't drop the name of the senator, although he said that the senator was the one who investigated him for "human rights violation" about his "Davao Death Squad" when he was still the mayor of the city.
"…**I will tell you that her driver herself, who was her lover, was the one also collecting money for her during the campaign**… But infairness, I will never state here that the driver gave the money to her. But by the looks of it, she has it," said president Duterte.
"Therse is an immoral woman, flaunting… it's adultery. **There's a woman who funded the house of her lover. And yet, we do not say anything about it**," added president Duterte.

Finally, president Duterte dropped the name of the senator after a media person asked him if he can name the government official:
On the other hand, Senator Leila De Lima said that the president's speech is "foul" and a clear case of "character assassination"
"It's so foul. It's character assasination. *Pareho naman po kaming propesyonal ng pangulo. Pareho kaming* public servants. So, *sana hindi ho siya nagre-*resort *sa ganyan na mga foul means. To me, that's very foul.* **I did not expect the president to do that, sa totoo lang**," said De Lima to the media.
"*Saan man nanggaling ang impormasyon na 'yan, sana dino-*double check. *Sana inaalam ang* source. *Kanino nanggaling 'yan?* That's really foul. *Ayaw ko talagang i-*dignify *'yan*. **Hindi po ako matitinag**," added De Lima.

The senator called for a press conference today. Here's senator De Lima's statement on president Duterte's "attack"
To quote senator De Lima:
"What is being done to me is what will happen to anyone who does not bow to the wishes of the president. **Tao lang din po ako na nasasaktan, natatakot, at nag-aalala rin para sa aking pamilya at mga mahal sa buhay**."
"**Sana po ay hindi pa sarado ang inyong isip na pakinggan muna ang aking panig bago ninyo ipagpatuloy ang paninira sa aking pagkatao sa harap ng publiko at taumbayan**," added De Lima.
