Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has announced that it will remove perimeter fencing from all previously locked public fields and recreational areas to create more open spaces in the city
In a statement yesterday, 29 January, the city hall said the initiative aims to provide city dwellers with expanded space to enjoy leisure, recreation, and sporting activities in a more open environment.
DBKL said the initiative aligns with its ongoing efforts to enhance urban residents' wellbeing and quality of life.
"DBKL encourages the public to make the best use of these facilities," it said.

A key highlight of this directive is the full reopening of Padang Merbok, an iconic field along Jalan Parlimen that had been closed since 2022
Padang Merbok, with all surrounding fences dismantled, is now fully accessible to the public during designated operating hours.
DBKL added that individuals and sports associations can still rent these fields for competitions or training sessions through the official channels.

DBKL reiterated that the success of these open spaces depends on the public's collective responsibility to use the facilities with care, maintain cleanliness, and adhere to the rules
"The public is also advised to prioritise safety at all times while conducting any activities in public fields and parks," it said.
