Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has announced that Dataran Merdeka will be closed until August next year
The field will be closed from 24 October 2018 until 2 August 2019 for the construction of phase one of the River of Life project at Precinct 7, Kuala Lumpur.

River of Life (ROL) is one of the Economic Transformation Projects by the Malaysian government
According to Construction+ Asia, the project is set to bring the community "back" to the river through connecting, transforming, and invigorating the river into a vibrant waterfront.
"Spaces once restricted are now open for public enjoyment and experience, and this is one of many steps taken to reclaim the rivers back into Kuala Lumpur," vice president of AECOM Feisal Noor said.

The River of Life project is divided into three main stages of work that are carried out in over four phases and 11 precincts
The stages of work include the cleaning, beautification, and economics of the river.
The first phase would see the removal of an old dilapidated building that obstructed the entrance of Masjid Jamek's entrance as well as the creation of a new open space called the Batik Plaza.
Additionally, a pedestrian bridge will be constructed to connect Merdeka Square to Masjid Jamek and historical buildings in the area will be opened to the public. The final completion is expected to be by 2020.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to be alert when in the area
Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) Corporate Planning Department director Khairul Azmir said in a statement today that people in the area should exercise caution, according to Malay Mail.
