A local man claims he was publicly insulted by a staff member after complaining about his meal at a popular fast food outlet in Simpang Ampat, Penang

The customer, who visited the branch at the Iconic Point commercial area with his family around 9.30pm on 27 September, said the chicken tenders he ordered were cold, soggy, and not as advertised, reported Sin Chew Daily.

He walked up to the counter to raise the issue, but claims that he was met with an indifferent response.

Moments later, when the staff brought the food into the kitchen, the customer said he heard a male kitchen worker loudly exclaim, "How is this not crispy? He's really stupid!"

"The staff shouted so loudly that everyone in the restaurant heard it," the customer told the Chinese daily.

When the customer confronted the cashier on the spot, she initially refused to name the person responsible

However, she eventually admitted it was a kitchen helper after the customer threatened to lodge a formal complaint.

The outlet offered a refund and asked the customer to leave his phone number, saying the process would take seven days.

The customer said he immediately left the restaurant with his family and has since filed a formal complaint with the chain's headquarters, but has not received a response.

According to the customer, the only follow-up he's received so far is a text message from the outlet confirming his refund request, but the money has yet to be returned.
