A husband and wife were killed after their car crashed into a lorry in Pekan last night, 17 June
The tragic incident occurred around 10pm along Jalan Kuantan–Segamat near Kampung Batu Lapan, Lepar, according to Berita Harian.
The victims, identified as 44-year-old Jamal Azizul Samat and his 41-year-old wife Lizawati Abdullah, were from Felda Chini Timur 1, Pahang.
Their three children were seriously injured in the crash.
The family was travelling from Kuantan towards Segamat when Jamal attempted to overtake another vehicle
Preliminary investigations suggest the crash occurred when the family's car, which was heading from Kuantan to Segamat, attempted to overtake another vehicle along the two-way stretch near Kampung Batu Lapan, Lepar.
The car is believed to have lost control during the manoeuvre, veering into the opposite lane before crashing head-on into an oncoming lorry.
"The driver and front passenger were trapped and died at the scene," Pekan district police chief Supt Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin said in a media statement.

Their three children, aged between 6 and 17, were rushed to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan
The 31-year-old lorry driver and two lorry attendants sustained only minor injuries.
The couple's bodies were sent to Pekan Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving causing death.
Police have not specified whether the lorry driver is being investigated.
