The crime came to light in June 2012 after joggers found a leg, cut off at the ankle, while running through the Vincennes forest on the edge of Paris. Several days later, a guide dog found a human torso in the same area, but the hunt for further remains was fruitless.

While the French police knew the victims were Asian, they were yet to determine their identities. But before the bodies could even be identified, a Chinese couple – Hui Zhang and her boyfriend Te Lu, both 34 years old – approached police and admitted to the crime.

Now, a Paris court on Friday, 22 January 2016, have handed a 20-year jail term to the 34-year-old nanny. In his closing arguments, Judge Julien Eyraud had told the court: "When I learned of this case I was overcome by the horror of what happened, imagining the smell of blood, this butchery in the bathroom, this violence."
