A traffic police brigade in Jinan, China, made an 8-year-old boy's birthday wish come true by allowing him to experience his dream job — all while fighting cancer

The boy, named Daoming, has been battling rhabdomyosarcoma — a type of soft tissue sarcoma affecting his brain and nose — for four years. He had always dreamed of becoming a traffic policeman.

Daoming's mother, Ms. Tan, reached out to the Jinan traffic police brigade on social media, sharing her son's love for traffic police officers and his fervent desire to experience their work firsthand.

"My child has a malignant tumour and came to Jinan for treatment," she wrote. "He has always loved traffic policemen and dreamed of becoming one. Could you please let him sit in your car or let him be a traffic policeman and direct traffic with you?"

Moved by Daoming's situation, the traffic police in Jinan prepared a special "dream-fulfilling action" for the boy

Daoming, accompanied by female traffic police officers, visited the women's squadron of the Shizhong Brigade, a detachment of the Jinan Public Security Bureau's Traffic Police.

The officers went above and beyond by allowing Daoming to ride a real police motorcycle and sit in the driver's seat of a brand-new police car, giving him a true taste of being a traffic cop.

"I'm so happy. It's my first time experiencing the feeling of sitting in a police car," Daoming was quoted as saying in QQ News.

Adding to the fun, he was given the opportunity to try on a traffic policeman's uniform, cheekily asking if he looked handsome in it.

"You look too dashing [in the uniform]," a female officer complimented.

Now dressed in his bright yellow vest and service cap, Daoming learned to direct traffic firsthand, receiving instruction in the necessary hand signals and commands.

He was also given a tour of the traffic monitoring centre, where he watched live video feeds of traffic conditions throughout Jinan.

Since being diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma at the age of 4, Daoming has undergone 18 chemotherapy sessions, 33 radiotherapy sessions, and two surgeries

When reporters asked whether he was afraid of his illness, Daoming bravely replied, "No."

"As long as I'm cured, I will be healthy. Then, I can become a traffic cop when I grow up. As a traffic policeman, I can help direct traffic, ride motorcycles, and catch bad guys," he said.

The Jinan traffic police released a video of Daoming's experience on Douyin, which went viral among Chinese netizens.

Daoming's mother expressed her profound gratitude in a comment, saying, "Thank you very much to the Jinan traffic police for helping my child fulfil his dream. Jinan is truly a warm city." Many online users also offered words of encouragement, wishing Daoming a speedy recovery.
