A woman in China discovered her husband's 16-year affair after his mistress appeared at his father's funeral, introducing herself as the 'daughter-in-law'

According to South China Morning Post, the woman, surnamed Shang, had been married to her husband, Wang, for 19 years.

At the funeral in June 2022, she noticed an unfamiliar woman named Wen dressed in mourning clothes and weeping by the coffin as if she were family.

When Shang confronted her husband, his evasive answers led her to take the matter to court, where she uncovered his long-running secret.

Court investigations revealed that Wang had met Wen just three years into his marriage with Shang

He began an affair that resulted in the birth of a son.

He told his wife he was away on long-haul trucking jobs, but was actually living with Wen and their child in another city.

Neighbours confirmed that the two referred to each other as husband and wife.

The court also found that Wang had once signed a surgical consent form for Wen, identifying himself as her husband.

Despite Wang's claims that they were "merely supporting each other", the court ruled that he had entered into a common-law marriage, constituting bigamy

He was sentenced to one year in prison.

Wang's appeal against the verdict was later rejected by the court.

The case went viral on social media in China, gaining over a million views. One person commented, "He should be sentenced for as many years as he was unfaithful."
