A video showing a mother calmly walking her toddler into a hospital with a fruit knife embedded in the child's head has stunned social media users

The incident occurred in Kunming, China, and gained public attention on 15 August when footage of the mother and child entering Dongchuan People's Hospital began circulating online.

According to South China Morning Post, the mother, surnamed Hu, reportedly gave conflicting accounts of how the 15cm blade became lodged just above her 3-year-old daughter's right ear.

While Hu initially claimed she had accidentally flung the knife while changing bedsheets, a hospital staff member said she later told a different story

Hu allegedly confessed that she had picked up the knife to "scare" her daughter during a tantrum and accidentally struck the child in the head.

Instead of calling an ambulance, Hu tried to remove the knife herself. When that failed, she walked with her daughter to the hospital for treatment.

Fortunately, doctors successfully removed the knife, and the toddler is reported to be in stable condition

The video has since gone viral on Chinese social media, with millions expressing their disbelief and criticising the mother's actions and calm demeanour.

Despite the public outcry, police have officially ruled the incident an accident, stating there was no criminal intent involved.
