In the male-dominated field of forensic science in China, women are often discriminated against for being perceived as weak or better suited to being 'family people'

Yanyan revealed that some institutions even openly restrict job openings to male applicants. This adds to the general discrimination pathologists face from a public that views their job as ominous, with some people refusing to shake their hands.

Despite the challenges, Yanyan said her husband and family are very supportive of her career.

She finds great value in her work, believing it brings justice to the deceased and offers peace to their grieving families.

Having witnessed some relatives react to their loved ones' deaths with indifference, Yanyan said it has profoundly shaped her perspective, leading her to share a powerful message with the living: Enjoy life while you still can.
