The Education Ministry (MoE) is set to introduce character development lessons in schools to nurture students with strong character and moral integrity

According to Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, the lessons will be incorporated into existing school subjects starting in 2026.

They will first be introduced to preschoolers before expanding to primary and secondary school students.

While clarifying that the lessons will not be offered as a new subject, Fadhlina said the goal is to strengthen children's moral values and character.

Fadhlina explained that teachers will allocate time to teach the lessons during their respective subjects

The character development lessons will be taught in the form of character-building activities, designed to help students internalise and apply these values in their daily lives.

"This is very important in shaping the character of our children," she said, according to New Straits Times.

"I hope space will be given to teachers and students to go through this new curriculum journey starting next year," she added.

Fadhlina added that teachers will be trained to better equip them to deliver the lessons.

She also encouraged parents to support their children in adapting to the new lessons.

The character development lessons are being introduced amid a spate of violent incidents in schools nationwide.
