Cambodian Man Dies After Consuming Poisonous Lizard Eggs

He was warned the eggs might be poisonous, but he ignored it.

A 34-year-old man from Russey Krak village in Cambodia has died from food poisoning after reportedly consuming roasted lizard eggs

According to the Khmer Times, the man, Khut Ratana was found dead at the space under his kampung house on Wednesday, 29 October, at about 8.10am.

Local police said two 10-year-old children saw Ratana drinking alcohol alone outside his house the previous afternoon, 28 October

They reported seeing him catch a nearby lizard, which he skinned, roasted, and ate, consuming both the meat and its eggs.

The children said they warned Ratana that the eggs might be poisonous, but he ignored their warning.

On Wednesday morning, the children's mother found Ratana lying motionless under his hammock and alerted local authorities

Following a post-mortem, police and forensic experts confirmed that Ratana died from food poisoning.

His body has since been returned to his family for funeral rites in line with local tradition.
