#Budget2023: Govt To Allocate RM10 Million To Combat Online Scams

Bank Negara will also require all banks to introduce a "kill switch" feature to better protect account holders.

The government will be allocating RM10 million to combat the rise of online scams, said Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim

He said the allocation will be given to the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) to improve its operation in combating the issue.

"In 2022, more than 25,000 criminal cases (online scams) were recorded, with (victims) losing about RM850 million," announced the Prime Minister while re-tabling the 2023 Budget.

Additionally, Anwar said Bank Negara will also require all banks to introduce a "kill switch" feature so bank account holders can freeze their accounts whenever suspicious activity is detected.
