A 10-year-old boy in China sued his father for "borrowing" his ang pow money

According to South China Morning Post, Xiaohui had accumulated over 82,750 yuan (RM47,000) in ang pow money over several years.

The money was kept in a dedicated bank account that his father opened in Zhengzhou, Henan.

Everything changed when the father remarried. After the divorce, Xiaohui moved in with his mother, who discovered that his bank account was empty.

It turned out the father withdrew all 82,750 yuan (RM47,000), including interest, to pay for his second wedding

When confronted, the father argued the money was actually a "social gift" from his friends.

He claimed it should only be returned once the boy reached adulthood.

The boy refused to accept this and took the matter to court.

The court ruled that the money legally belonged to Xiaohui and ordered the father to return it

Under the Civil Code of the People's Republic of China, holiday "lucky money" is considered a gift to the child, not the guardian.

While parents can manage the funds, they cannot use them for personal expenses like a second wedding.

The judge ordered the father to return the full 82,750 yuan (RM47,000) to his son immediately.
