An 11-year-old boy in China was rushed to hospital after spending 14 straight hours trying to finish his summer homework

On 26 August, the boy, identified as Liangliang from Changsha, worked on his assignments from 8am to 10pm without any breaks due to pressure from his parents.

South China Morning Post reported that by 11pm, he began showing alarming symptoms, including rapid breathing, dizziness, and numbness in his limbs, which had contorted into a claw-like shape.

At the hospital, Liangliang was diagnosed with a respiratory condition caused by hyperventilation

The condition is often triggered by severe emotional agitation and stress.

According to Zhang Xiaofo, Director of the Paediatric Department at Changsha Central Hospital, the paediatric emergency department admitted more than 30 teenagers with similar symptoms in August alone.

This marked a tenfold increase compared to other months.

Zhang noted that while the condition is often brought on by exam anxiety, it can be fatal in severe cases

The incident has since gone viral on Chinese social media, prompting many to share their own experiences with last-minute homework marathons and academic pressure.

One user commented that the boy's experience is a powerful reminder of the importance of time management.
