The Road and Transport Department (JPJ) will no longer require proof of travel for physical driving licence applications beginning tomorrow, 23 January
In a statement today, 22 January, the Transport Ministry said the adoption of digital driving licences has reached 13 million users, reflecting the widespread acceptance of the government's digitalisation initiative.
While the trend is encouraging, the ministry said it considered public feedback on the previous requirement to show proof of travel, such as a flight ticket, when applying for a physical driving licence.
"As a step to reduce red tape, JPJ has been directed to no longer request proof of travelling abroad.
"Starting 23 January 2026, the printing of physical driving licences will be allowed without the need to show any proof of travel, with a printing fee of RM20 for Malaysian citizens and RM100 for non-Malaysian citizens," it said.

The ministry added that those above the age of 60, holders of Class A1 and A licences, and registered persons with disabilities can receive physical licences for free.
"Drivers who opt for digital driving licences will continue to enjoy free access to their licences, which can be renewed via the MyJPJ application without the need to visit any office.
"The ministry and JPJ remain committed to continuously improving public service delivery. The public is encouraged to fully utilise the convenience of digital driving licences through the MyJPJ application for a simpler, faster, and smoother experience," read the statement.
