Sarawak-owned airline AirBorneo is set to launch its first regional jet services this July, marking the next phase of expansion after taking over MASWings earlier this year

The airline will begin with flights from Kuching to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and Kota Kinabalu, using three wet-leased Boeing 737-800s.

According to airline CEO Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin, Kuching will be the main hub for these new jet operations.

Meanwhile, Kota Kinabalu and Miri will continue to serve as turboprop hubs for regional connectivity.

"We're moving into Phase 2 of our development. Starting in July, we plan to operate regional flights from Kuching using jet aircraft, while keeping turboprop services running in Kota Kinabalu and Miri," Megat told reporters, according to Sarawak Tribune.

Once operations stabilise, more domestic and international destinations are expected to be added gradually, with a target of three domestic and three international routes by the end of 2026, subject to flight slot availability and regulatory approvals

According to Bernama, the airline is currently working closely with the Civil Aviation Authority and other stakeholders to finalise approvals, flight slots, and operational frameworks, including network planning, sales, and revenue management.

Megat emphasised that ensuring a smooth launch and positive passenger experience is a top priority.

Megat noted that the airline has received positive feedback from travellers, maintaing a healthy on-time performance (OTP) of around 89% to 90%.

The company plans to upgrade its turboprop fleet with eight new ATR 72-600s starting in 2027 to improve comfort and efficiency.
