AirAsia Malaysia has announced the further expansion of its Indonesian network with the introduction of a new direct route between Kota Bharu and Jakarta
Commencing on 16 June 2026, the airline will operate four weekly flights between the two cities, marking its 20th route to Indonesia and a significant milestone for regional connectivity.
This strategic expansion positions AirAsia as the first carrier to offer international services between the Kelantan capital city and Indonesia.

The route is expected to play a pivotal role in supporting Kelantan's ambitious tourism targets, with the state aiming to attract 12 million domestic and international visitors this year
This goal follows a strong performance in 2025, during which the state welcomed approximately 11 million arrivals — the vast majority of whom were domestic travellers.
Beyond leisure tourism, the new flight path is designed to bolster Kelantan's burgeoning medical travel sector. The state has been actively positioning itself as a hub for affordable, high-quality healthcare, specifically targeting patients from Indonesia and neighbouring countries.
Kota Bharu and Jakarta share a deep Malay-Muslim cultural heritage, making the cities natural partners for tourism and trade
While Kota Bharu is renowned for its traditional artisanal crafts and culinary scene, Jakarta serves as a major economic powerhouse. This direct link is expected to foster seamless cultural exchange and strengthen economic partnerships between the two cities.
In conjunction with the launch, AirAsia is offering promotional one-way fares from Kota Bharu to Jakarta
The offer starts from RM199 for flights from Malaysia. In the reverse direction, fares from Jakarta are available from IDR709,000 (RM165). These special rates are available for booking until 22 March 2026 for travel periods spanning 16 June 2026 to 27 March 2027.
