Air India Flight To London Crashes After Take-Off From Ahmedabad With Over 200 Passengers
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner appeared to have crashed in a residential area.

The incident occurred near the Meghaninagar area in Ahmedabad, causing widespread panic among local residents. Eyewitnesses reported seeing thick plumes of grey smoke billowing from the crash site, which were visible from several kilometres away, including parts of Vastrapur, about 15km away from the site.
Emergency responders, including firefighters and rescue teams, were dispatched immediately. Authorities have cordoned off the area and urged the public to stay away as rescue operations are still ongoing.
The plane, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, has a capacity of 256 passengers, the BBC reported.
According to The Guardian, there were at least 242 people onboard the Air India plane.
The plane appears to have crashed in a residential area after losing signal just seconds after take-off, at an altitude of 625ft, according to Flight Radar.
At the time of writing, officials have yet to confirm any fatalities, or reveal the cause of the crash
Air India confirmed the incident in a statement on X.
"Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad–London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025. At this moment, we are ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest," the airline posted.
Visuals from the site, now circulating widely on social media, show flames and heavy smoke rising from what appears to be the wreckage of the aircraft.
