A 95-year-old woman is searching for her four children decades after leaving them following a quarrel with her husband in her youth

According to China Press, Su Shu Xin (transliteration) has been living at Joy Garden Old Folks Home in Semenyih, Selangor, for the past 20 years.

Su said she hopes to reunite with her children in her twilight years and return home if they are willing to take her in.

"If my children want to take me home, I will go; if they do not, I will continue living in the nursing home," she said.

The nonagenarian shared that she and her husband had one daughter and three sons, named Huang Mei Zhu, Huang Ying Tian, Ying Xiong, and Ying Xing (transliteration of 黄美珠, 黄英添, 黄英雄, and 黄英兴).

She told the Chinese daily their names in Hokkien but was unable to write their Chinese characters.

She has only one photograph of herself from her younger days and hopes her children might recognise her through it.

Su recounted that she was married at 25 and began having children at 26. Her children would now be in their 70s.

After leaving her family following a quarrel, her husband remarried. At the time, the children were in their teens and remained with their father.

To support herself, she worked various jobs, including working in wet markets, as domestic help, and as a dishwasher. She continued working until the age of 73, reported China Press.

When she was no longer able to work, she moved into a nursing home on her own.

"I am still very blessed to have been accepted by the nursing home. I have lived here for 20 years, and the person in charge takes very great care of me.

"I don't know where my children are, and they don't know I am here. I want to see them," she lamented.

A Joy Garden Old Folks Home spokesperson said Su has been looking for her children for the past two years, but information on her family background is limited

"Although she is 95 years old, she has no major health issues.

"Her mind is very clear, she can communicate with others, and she loves to talk. She can eat and change her own diapers by herself," said the manager of the nursing home.

The nursing home is a non-profit organisation that relies on donations from the public and private enterprises. About 90% of its inhabitants are single and have no next of kin.

Anyone with information about Su's children can contact Joy Garden Old Folks Home at +6017-5531101 or +012-7833655.
