A woman is mourning the deaths of her adoptive mother, along with 70 stray cats and five stray dogs, in a house fire

According to Sinar Harian, the blaze occurred on Jalan Tok Guru in Kota Bharu, Kelantan last Sunday, 25 January.

When the firefighters arrived at the scene after receiving a distress call at 5.58pm, 98% of the house had been destroyed.

Norhaeda Azahari, 51, said she was out of town at the time of the incident and was devastated when she received news of the fire at around 6pm.

When she arrived at the scene, she learned that her adoptive mother, Fatimah Mat Said, 89, had died after being trapped in the fire.

She said Fatimah was ill and had vision problems, although she was still able to walk.

She was also heartbroken over the stray animals she had rescued, describing them as part of her family

"The 70 cats that I had been caring for and kept in cages were burned alive.

"Five stray dogs that I often fed and that roamed around the house also died," she told Sinar Harian.

Meanwhile, Noraida's brother, Zarackhan, said his sister has always had a deep love for cats, reported the New Straits Times.

"She would spend her own money to buy food and provide medical care whenever the cats were sick," said Zarackhan.

Zarackhan said Noraida, the second of eight siblings, often brought home stray cats she found by the roadside or near food stalls.

"Every time she went out or ate at any food stall and saw stray cats there, she would quickly feel pity for them and bring them home to care for them," he said.
