An 88-year-old lawyer was among two dead in a fire at a law firm in George Town, Penang, today, 13 April
According to FMT, the fire and rescue department said they were alerted to the fire at 12.14pm.
At the time, the blaze had already destroyed 70% of the double-storey unit on King Street.
Firefighters said two people were believed to have been trapped.
The deputy chairman of Penang's planning appeals board, Malkit Singh, later told FMT that one of the deceased was Datuk San Markan, 88, a senior member of the Malaysian Bar.

The other victim, Chandra Binwani Jiwatram, 60, was a clerk at the office
Penang fire and rescue department director Mohamad Shoki Hamzah said San Markan was discovered near a window, seated on a chair, reported the New Straits Times.
Early indications suggest that the cause of death was smoke inhalation.
It is understood that San Markan recently celebrated his 88th birthday, and was at the office to sort out some legal matters.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Shoki said Chandra was found near a wall, beneath a pile of files.
Both victims were found not far from each other, but in separate spots within the premises.
