The phenomenon of parents forgetting their children in cars is a global issue, commonly known as Forgotten Baby Syndrome
According to consultant paediatrician and paediatric cardiologist Datuk Dr Zulkifli Ismail, parents are likely to make this mistake when they are stressed, sleep-deprived, experiencing a change in routine, or preoccupied with other matters.
To prevent such tragedies, Dr Zulkifli advised parents to minimise distractions while driving, place important belongings in the back seat with the child, check the car before locking it, and position the child's car seat in the centre or on the left side, among other safety measures.
