A 37-year-old woman is under investigation for stabbing three people on a subway train at Seoul Station, South Korea
According to a police statement released on Saturday, 4 March, the woman was said to have been travelling in a subway train headed to Jukjeon Station in the city of Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, reported The Korea Herald.
During the train ride, the woman was allegedly speaking loudly on her phone. She was asked to lower her voice by one of the train commuters, who referred to her as 'ajumma'. Offended by being called that, the woman took out a knife and began to stab nearby passengers.
Two women in their 60s and a man in his 50s were injured in the attack.
The term 'ajumma' is a Korean term colloquially used to refer to a married or middle-aged woman. The term may occasionally be used as an insult against anyone deemed as an older woman.
