Jobstreet by SEEK Malaysia reports that half of local companies seek to expand their permanent teams in the first half of 2026

The primary drivers are business expansion (77%), the need for new skill sets (54%), and staff replacement (40%).

"With more roles opening up, the question for employers is no longer who is hiring, but who will stand out. Increasingly, that comes down to Employer Value Proposition (EVP): the everyday experiences that shape why people choose to join, stay, and grow with an organisation." said Jobstreet by SEEK Malaysia managing director, Nicholas Lam.

He noted "everyday experiences" now dictate candidate interest. Here are four "people-first" culture aspects that many Malaysian talents currently look for at work.

1. Diversity and inclusivity

According to Jobstreet, half of Southeast Asian companies have adopted Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, with 26% expected to implement them this year.

The jobseeking platform revealed that effective DEI requires intentional representation across gender, age, and cultural backgrounds to ensure workplaces are truly inclusive.

2. Clear and attainable career growth

Jobstreet found that career progression remains the primary reason for retaining talent.

Employees are seeking clarity, clear development pathways, mentorships, targeted trainings and cross-functional exposure. In other words, they want to know if they have a future in their companies.

Jobstreet recommended that companies take advantage of government support, such as claimable training fees via HRD Corp.

"When development is embedded into everyday work, it becomes a core EVP strength rather than a 'nice to have'."

3. Flexibility and wellbeing

Many Malaysian talents are now expecting flexibility at work, Jobstreet said.

In 2025 alone, 16% of Malaysian companies introduced flexible working hours. Jobstreet said this reflects a shift towards working arrangements that better fit employees' real lives.

These companies practise flexibility through measures ranging from adjustable start and end times to hybrid work and flexible workdays. Some also invest in wellness spaces and partnerships to promote physical, mental and financial health.

These organisations aim to bring out the best in their employees without causing burnout.

4. Employer reputation

Jobstreet said how an organisation is perceived before a job offer is made is crucial for hiring and retaining talent.

Candidates are now actively researching workplace culture to see if a company is a suitable fit.

This is where industry platforms such as the SEEK People & Purpose Awards highlight organisations setting meaningful benchmarks in inclusion, wellbeing, and sustainable people practices.

As talent competition tightens, the SEEK People & Purpose Awards serve as a benchmark for excellence. Interested companies can find more information on the official SEEK awards website
