Two trainee teachers were found dead after kayaking during their school's off-campus outdoor education programme at Pantai Merdeka, Kedah on Saturday, 4 April
According to Bernama, Kuala Muda district police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan said the victims, Christopher Ling Jia Siang, 21, and Joey Ling Lin Siang, 20, were both students of the Perlis Teacher Education Institute (IPG).
The incident is believed to have occurred at about 5pm, with preliminary investigations indicating that their kayak capsized due to rough sea conditions.
The victims were later found entangled in a local fisherman's net, and their bodies were only recovered at about 7.30pm. Both were reportedly wearing life jackets at the time.
The case has been classified as sudden death.

The Ministry of Education (MOE) said it has initiated an internal investigation to determine whether all standard operating procedures (SOPs) were properly followed
In a Facebook post on Sunday, 5 April, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek added that the case is also being investigated by other relevant authorities.
She also said the ministry is providing immediate assistance to the victims' families, with priority given to their welfare and wellbeing.
"On behalf of MOE, I extend my condolences to the families of the two Perlis IPG students who were involved in this accident. May their families be given strength and resilience during this difficult time," she said.
The ministry said it will also manage arrangements to repatriate the bodies of the students back to Sarawak, their home state.
