19-Year-Old Malaysian Arrested In Macau For Smuggling RM5 Million Worth Of Cannabis

The suspect claimed he was promised RM5,000 to deliver the drugs.

A 19-year-old Malaysian was arrested in Macau on Thursday, 25 September, after attempting to smuggle 8.9kg of cannabis into the city

According to The Macau Post, police intercepted the teenager upon his arrival at Macau International Airport and discovered 16 foil-wrapped packages of cannabis.

The drugs are estimated to have a street value of around 9 million patacas (approximately RM5 million).

During questioning, the suspect admitted that a Malaysian drug syndicate promised him RM5,000 to deliver the drugs from Bangkok to Hong Kong, transiting through South Korea and Macau

Macau police said they are investigating the source of the cannabis and tracking down others connected to the case.

The suspect has since been handed over to Macau's Public Prosecutions Office to face further questioning and a drug trafficking charge.
