If you've ever travelled to Taiwan, you're probably familiar with the EasyCard, iPass, and iCash cards

They're basically Taiwan's version of Touch 'n Go – you can tap to pay for the MRT, buses, some taxis, even snacks at convenience stores.

In the past two years, these cards have gone viral for their eye-catching designs.

Because they're attached to a keyring, these cards are way more convenient to carry around. Instead of digging through your wallet, just tap your dangling "baskets" or "Pokéball" and go.

They also feature famous characters from Sanrio, Pokémon, Sailormoon, Snoopy, and Star Wars

Whether you're a lifelong Sanrio fan or just someone who loves cute accessories, these cards blur the line between functional tech and adorable merch.

Imagine tapping into the MRT with Hello Kitty dangling from your keys!

Now your everyday items double as smartcard keychains

Not all of Taiwan's quirky designs are about food or characters. Some cards are literally shaped like the objects we see or use every day – a striped shopping tote, a retro television set, or even a light bulb that glows when tapped.

So, where can you get these when visiting Taiwan?

  • 7-Eleven & FamilyMart: Most new releases drop here first.
  • Character stores: Pokémon Center Taipei, Sanrio shops.
  • MRT stations: Some machines there let you customise your own cards.

Prices start around NT$100 (RM15–RM20) for plain designs, while the fancier ones can cost NT$300–450 (RM45–RM70).
