A Taiwanese man recently completed an incredible solo journey around Peninsular Malaysia — riding a modest 125cc scooter across 2,640km in just seven days

Sharing his experience in the Facebook group The Solo Rider (Malaysia), the man, known as Chang, detailed his route and experiences.

He started his journey in Shah Alam, Selangor, made his way up to Kaki Bukit, Perlis, crossed into Kota Bharu, Kelantan, continued down to Kota Tinggi, Johor, and eventually looped back up to Shah Alam.

He visited famous landmarks, including the Kuala Terengganu Drawbridge, the Pahang State Mosque in Kuantan, Laman Mahkota in Johor Bahru, Melaka's Christ Church, and many more

"The scooter isn't fast, but it allows me to take in the scenery in a leisurely and casual pace. I enjoy the freedom more than reaching the destination quickly," he wrote.

He added, "Experiencing the wind, sun, and rain — and various unexpected 'surprises' on the way — is often the best reward."

Speaking to SAYS, Chang said he's originally from Tainan, Taiwan, and has been living in Malaysia since 2018

He currently works as a teacher at the Chinese Taipei School Kuala Lumpur, based in Shah Alam.

Chang said his scooter was initially meant for short-distance travel — until a friend excitedly told him, "You can ride to Penang by motorcycle!", which sparked the idea for a longer adventure.

To prepare, he planned each day's travel distance and booked accommodations online in advance.

He encountered only a few hiccups, like rerouting his journey due to rain, a flat tire, and even a bee flying into his coat while riding — all of which were resolved smoothly.

Chang said the unexpected moments — and the many friendly Malaysians he met — were the highlight of his trip

"These surprises may not seem 'good' at the time, but they always lead to a better story," he said.

"Beyond the beautiful scenery, I chatted with locals during the trip and was deeply impressed by the warmth and friendliness of many people.

"Even though I can barely speak Malay and my English isn't very good, many people still patiently tried to talk with me," he shared with SAYS.

As for what's next? The solo traveller said he hasn't decided on his next destination — but one thing's for sure: he'll be sticking with his trusty scooter.

In 2022, a Malaysian photographer embarked on a similar road trip and took some amazing photos along the way:
