Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has announced that the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has released new health requirements for pilgrims performing the Hajj for the 1447H/2026M season

In a statement, TH said these requirements will be enforced, and all pilgrims must comply in order to obtain their Hajj visa.

Below are the requirements:

  • Free from infectious diseases, serious illnesses, or uncontrolled chronic diseases.
  • Physically capable of performing Hajj independently.

Pilgrims will be deemed ineligible to perform Hajj if they have any of the following conditions:

  • Chronic kidney failure

  • Chronic lung disease
  • Chronic liver disease
  • Neurological or mental disorders affecting cognitive or motor functions
  • Elderly individuals with dementia or frailty
  • High-risk pregnancy

TH will continue to provide health clinics at all pilgrims' accommodations in Makkah and Madinah

For the 1447H/2026M Hajj season, each accommodation building will still be equipped with an outpatient clinic and pharmacy managed by qualified health personnel from the Ministry of Health (MOH). This is to ensure continued quality healthcare services for Malaysian pilgrims, including companions assisting the elderly or persons with disabilities.

However, beginning with the 1447H/2026M season, TH will no longer be allowed to operate its own treatment centres in the Holy Land.

Pilgrims requiring further medical treatment will be referred to hospitals provided by the Saudi government, with close supervision from MOH medical specialists.

TH has also made plans to arrange for medical facilities at private hospitals in Saudi Arabia if necessary. Together with MOH, TH will deploy 225 healthcare personnel for the 1447H/2026M Hajj season.

TH reiterates that the safety, welfare, and comfort of pilgrims remain its top priority every year

TH group managing director and chief executive officer Mustakim Mohamad said that TH consistently prioritises the safety, welfare, and comfort of Malaysian pilgrims as the core of its Hajj operations.

"As in previous years, TH takes the health aspects of pilgrims very seriously, especially during their stay in the Holy Land. For this reason, TH allocates a significant portion of its on-ground personnel each year to medical staff from MOH.

"Maintaining good health is part of the istito'ah requirement (capability to perform Hajj), as emphasised in the resolutions of the National Hajj Muzakarah.

"As in previous years, all prospective pilgrims must pass a medical examination conducted by KKM before being accepted for Hajj," he said.
