If you've ever done an eye test, chances are you've probably been told to "look at the little red house in the green field"
You know the one. Calm blue sky. Perfect grass. The house that somehow makes you feel like you're being judged for squinting too hard.

Well, surprise… that tiny house might not be as fictional as you thought
Turns out, it actually looks a lot like a real church in Iceland called Ingjaldshólskirkja.

Perched on a hill in the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, Ingjaldshólskirkja is a small white church with a bright red roof and stunning mountain views
It's one of Iceland's most photographed spots. According to countless travellers online, it's believed to be the real-life inspiration behind the iconic image used in eye exams around the world.
While there's no official confirmation from optical companies, the Chinese Embassy of Iceland once mentioned that a local tour guide said many Chinese tourists love visiting the church because it shows up in every Chinese eye test as a fixed target.

Fun fact: the church also has a bit of history behind it.
Built in the early 1900s, Ingjaldshólskirkja was once the third-largest church in Iceland, and some even believe Christopher Columbus stayed at Ingjaldshóll during the winter of 1477 – 78.

That said, some claim the inspiration for the red house might've actually come from Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky
To be fair, the setup looks eerily similar — same white fence, same stretch of road — except the Kentucky one's roof is black, not red.
Which means… eye test house, you're still a mystery.

Whatever the truth is, the resemblance is uncanny. So, next time you're asked to focus on that little red house in the distance, just know, you might actually be looking at a tiny piece of Iceland.
Or, you know, Kentucky.
