Got a wobbly chair, blunt kitchen knives, or clothes sitting in your "maybe I'll fix this someday" pile? This weekend might be the perfect time to finally sort them out.
Small Fixes!, a community repair day organised by FRIENDS Craft Coop, is happening on Saturday, 28 February, bringing together skilled volunteers and repair experts to help the public fix, mend, and refresh everyday items, all while promoting sustainable living.
Taking place at FRIENDS Craft Coop in PJ Industrial Park, the event runs from 10am to 6pm and focuses on reducing waste by giving items a second life instead of sending them to the landfill.

The idea behind Small Fixes! is simple: repair what you already own, learn useful skills, and appreciate the value of craftsmanship, or pertukangan, in everyday life
Throughout the day, volunteers and invited "repair tukangs" will be on-site offering help across different categories, from furniture and fashion to electronics and tools.
Here's what you can fix (or refresh) at the event
Knife and tool sharpening
Mr Loh from The Polishing Edge will be offering sharpening services for knives, choppers, and scissors. Perfect if your kitchen tools have lost their edge.
Shoe repairs
Mr Mad from Section 17 will be on hand to help repair worn or damaged shoes, giving your favourite pairs a longer lifespan.

Electronics repairs
Volunteers from Repair Café KL, a community-run repair initiative, will assist with troubleshooting and fixing electronic devices such as:
- Phones, tablets, laptops, and e-readers
- Small USB devices like microphones, speakers, and computer mice
- Electronic accessories including earbuds, headphones, and AirTags

Sewing and clothing repairs
A team of volunteers will help patch, mend, and sew clothing items, so you can keep wearing pieces you love instead of tossing them out.
Clothes swap booth
Bring up to three pieces of clothing and swap them for three "new-to-you" items. It's a fun and sustainable way to refresh your wardrobe without buying anything new.

Furniture clinic
Got loose joints or minor furniture issues? Volunteers will provide simple fixes along with maintenance advice to help you care for your furniture long-term.

The organisers hope visitors will leave not just with repaired belongings, but also a greater appreciation for craftsmanship, resourcefulness, and community collaboration
If you've been putting off small repairs, this might be your sign to finally bring those items out of storage.
