As the countdown to the New Year begins, many of us look forward to the excitement of celebrations, get-togethers, and the feeling of a fresh start

But for some, the end of the year doesn't feel like that at all, instead, it feels exhausting.
PETRONAS' new year short film, titled Once More, captures this reality. Premiering on YouTube, the cinematic film centres on topics like friendship, unity, and the unseen struggles that people carry into a new chapter of life.
Once More follows four friends continuing a long-standing tradition of coming together for a New Year's Eve celebration. This year, however, the tradition finds a new setting at their friend, Evie's home.

The cheerful chaos of Evie's three best friends getting ready to head to Evie's home is briefly interrupted by concern when Evie doesn't reply to their messages, leaving them on "bluetick" instead.
Still, they decide to show up, upholding their friendship tradition and lending strength to help Evie, who's been dealing with challenges of her own.
What unfolds next is an emotional story about friendship, togetherness, and the power of showing up for one another.
One of the film's most touching moments happens right at the start

Despite Evie's silence, her friends still arrive at her doorstep, carrying their excitement with them. It's a simple but powerful reminder that sometimes, being present matters more than having the right words.
Besides that, we are also treated to a light-hearted scene that highlights the wholesome side of friendship

As Evie is sent to her room to get ready, her friends begin cleaning the house, washing dishes, reorganising the living room, and laying out food they brought along.
The scene then shifts to Evie opening the gift they've prepared for her. Inside is a note that reads: "Let us end and start the year together, just like always."
Beneath it are new clothes, not just for Evie, but also for her newborn baby. It's a moment that quietly breaks through Evie's exhaustion, bringing a warm smile to her face.
The film reaches its emotional peak when Evie finally opens up about her struggles

Cradling her baby, she shares the reality of her transition into motherhood — the sleepless nights, the constant worries, the never-ending mess that seems to return no matter how much she cleans.
She speaks about her husband being away for work, and the loneliness that lingers, even as she feels guilty for feeling that way while caring for her daughter.
Her friends didn't interrupt but listened. Then, they remind her that while life has changed, the one thing that hasn't is the fact that they're always there for each other.
Once More is a reminder that new beginnings don't always come from having everything figured out, they come from knowing you don't have to face change alone
