Malaysia's beloved kari ayam has clinched the top spot on TasteAtlas' list of the 100 best-rated stews in the world, beating out a variety of globally celebrated dishes — including Indonesia's rendang

Kari ayam, a fragrant chicken curry typically made with a mix of coconut milk, ghee, tomatoes, and spices like curry leaves, cumin, turmeric, and fennel, earned a 4.7-star rating.

According to TasteAtlas, the dish is traditionally cooked in a clay pot, allowing the ingredients to slowly develop depth and flavour. It's often served with rice and finished with lime juice and fresh coriander.

Meanwhile, rendang, often considered Indonesia's national dish, was praised for its spiciness and long cooking process

Originating among the Minangkabau people of West Sumatra, the dish was developed using an abundance of spices and extended cooking hours to help preserve meat in the region's hot, tropical climate.

While rendang is frequently compared to Indian curry due to its complex flavours, this time, it's Malaysia's kari ayam that takes the global spotlight, coming out as the most highly rated stew in the world.
