A Seremban woman has shattered the glass ceiling in a traditionally male-dominated arena by becoming Malaysia's first recognised female dragon and lion dance coach

According to China Press, Tan Yee Lee, affectionately called Master Tan by her students, was officially certified by the Malaysia Book of Records for her pioneering role.

Master Tan, who coaches at the Rantau Dragon and Lion Dance Association, said this milestone proves cultural arts are not restricted by gender.

According to her social media platforms, Tan lists Seremban as her hometown.

Rasah member of parliament Cha Kee Chin, who attended the ceremony, congratulated Tan on her achievement

He said that while the art form originated in China, it has matured significantly in Malaysia and is no longer exclusive to the Chinese Malaysian community.

Cha revealed that the Rantau Dragon and Lion Dance Association has 40 senior members, with 80% of them being Indian Malaysian.

"Today, lion and dragon dance is no longer confined to a single ethnic group. It has become a cultural asset shared by all Malaysians," Cha said, adding that the craft fosters social unity, harmony, and multicultural inclusion.
