Bernama reported that the first flight, MH135, took off on 29 November with strong demand. It was 86% full on the way to Brisbane and almost completely full (99%) on the way back to KL.

Passengers on the inaugural flight were greeted with goodie bags and even got to fly on the airline's special Manchester United–themed aircraft.

According to Malaysia Aviation Group chief commercial officer Dersenish Aresandiran, the return of the Brisbane route is part of the airline's commitment to growing its presence in Australia and improving global connectivity.

He said the reinstated flights will support tourism, business, and easier travel between Malaysia and Queensland.

Malaysia Airlines now flies to Brisbane every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, departing KLIA at 8.40pm

The return flight leaves Brisbane at 8am on the same days. Brisbane is now the airline's fifth Australian destination, alongside Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, and Adelaide.

The airline is also introducing its new A330neo aircraft on selected Australia routes, offering better comfort, fuel efficiency, and upgraded cabins. By early 2026, Malaysia Airlines aims to have the youngest wide body fleet flying into Australasia.

With Visit Malaysia 2026 coming up, the airline hopes more Australians will explore Malaysia, from KL's lively city scene to island escapes, incredible food, and cultural highlights

Travellers stopping over in KL can also make use of the Bonus Side Trip programme, which gives them a chance to visit destinations like Penang, Kuching, or Langkawi with zero base fare (taxes apply).

The resumed flights also make it easier for Malaysians to explore Queensland, from Brisbane's riverside dining and museums to the Gold Coast's beaches, hiking spots, and theme parks like Dreamworld and Sea World.

Flights are now available on Malaysia Airlines' website and the Malaysia Airlines app.
