Before you blink and realise it's already the end of the year, let's get one thing sorted: your 2026 holiday calendar

Here's a handy guide to all the long weekends and public holidays in Malaysia in 2026, so you can start booking those trips (or just plan a chill week at home).


There are a total of eight long weekends in 2026:

Note: Some long weekends are state-specific, so it's best to check your state's holiday schedule before making travel plans.

Thaipusam and Federal Territory Day
31 January – 2 February (Saturday to Monday)
– Thaipusam: Johor, KL, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Perak, Putrajaya, and Selangor
– Federal Territory Day: KL, Labuan, and Putrajaya

Hari Raya Aidilfitri
21 March – 23 March (Saturday to Monday)
– National holiday is tentatively set for 21 March and 22 March (Saturday and Sunday), which could make Monday a replacement national holiday, except in Kedah (subject to the moon sighting)
– Johor will have 23 March (Monday) off in celebration of the Sultan's birthday
– Melaka gets 23 March (Monday) off for Hari Raya Aidilfitri

Good Friday (Sabah and Sarawak only)
3 April – 5 April (Friday to Sunday)

Labour Day
1 May – 3 May (Friday to Sunday)
– Labour Day falls on 1 May (Friday)
– Kedah observes Labour Day on 3 May (Sunday) as well

Wesak Day and Yang di-Pertuan Agong's birthday
30 May – 1 June (Saturday to Monday)
– Wesak Day falls on 31 May (Sunday)
– National holiday for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's birthday on 1 June (Monday)

Merdeka
29 August – 31 August (Saturday to Monday)
– 31 August (Monday) is a national holiday for Merdeka

Deepavali
8 November – 9 November (Sunday and Monday)
– National holiday on 8 November (Sunday), except Sarawak
– Kedah, Kelantan, Sarawak, and Terengganu will not observe 9 November (Monday) as a public holiday

Christmas
25 December – 27 December (Friday to Sunday)
– National holiday for Christmas on 25 December (Friday)
– Kedah gets 27 December (Sunday) off
– Sabah celebrates Christmas Eve on 24 December (Thursday)


On top of that, you can take annual leave on these dates to stretch your weekends even longer:

New Year's Day
1 January to 4 January (Thursday to Sunday)
– Take leave on 2 January (Friday)
– 1 January is a holiday for all states except Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Perlis, and Terengganu

Chinese New Year
14 February to 18 February (Saturday to Wednesday)
– Take leave on 16 February (Monday) to get a five-day break
– National holiday on 17 – 18 February

Hari Raya Haji and Arafat Day
26 May to 28 May (Wednesday and Thursday)
– Arafat Day (26 May) is a holiday for Kelantan and Terengganu
– Take leave on 25 and 26 May (Monday and Tuesday) for a five-day break (Kelantan and Terengganu already have Tuesday off)
– 28 May is a holiday for Kedah, Kelantan, Perlis, and Terengganu

Wesak Day and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's Birthday
30 May to 2 June (Saturday to Tuesday)
– National holiday for Wesak on 31 May (Sunday)
– If your state observes Hari Raya Haji, Wesak Day, and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's birthday, take 28 May (Thursday) and 29 May (Friday) off to enjoy a six-day weekend
– 28 May is already a holiday for Kedah, Kelantan, Perlis, and Terengganu

Awal Muharram 
17 June (Wednesday)
– Take two days off before or after 17 June to enjoy a five-day break

Prophet Muhammad's birthday 
25 August (Tuesday)
– 25 August is a tentative national holiday for Prophet Muhammad's birthday
– Take 24 August (Monday) off and turn it into a four-day weekend

Malaysia Day 
16 September (Wednesday)
– Take two days off before or after 16 September for a five-day break


In addition to the national public holidays, if you are living or working in these respective states and federal territories, you get to enjoy the following holidays (with or without taking extra leave days):

Negeri Sembilan

  • YDPB Negeri Sembilan's birthday: 14 January (Wednesday)

  • Hari Raya Haji: 27 – 28 May (Wednesday – Thursday)
  • Sultan of Kedah's Birthday: 21 June (Sunday)

  • Federal Territory Day: 1 – 2 February (Sunday – Monday)
  • Harvest Festival (Labuan): 30 – 31 May (Saturday – Sunday)


Melaka

  • Awal Ramadan: 20 February (Friday)
  • Independence Declaration Day: 20 February (Friday)
  • Hari Raya Aidilfitri: 24 March (Tuesday)
  • Melaka Governor's birthday: 24 – 25 August (Monday – Tuesday)


Kelantan*

  • Arafat Day: 26 May (Tuesday)

*These states observe a Sunday-to-Thursday work week, with weekends falling on Friday and Saturday.
