Chocolate chip cookies are usually all about butter, sugar, and comfort. But a local cake shop has decided to flip the script by adding Iberico pork into the mix.

Just in time for Chinese New Year, Caketella teamed up with Wing Heong to create bak kwa–inspired chocolate chip cookies as part of its "Not Your Boring Cookies" set.

Instead of sticking to the usual butter-only base, the bakery uses Iberico pork fat, which they say gives the cookies a smoky, meaty flavour that adds depth to the sweetness of the chocolate chips.

As the bakery puts it: "It sounds wrong, but it's really right. Never try, never know."

The bak kwa cookies were released as part of a set with three different types of cookies, which has already sold out

The Iberico pork chocolate chip cookies are available à la carte at RM50 per tub — definitely on the indulgent side, but also not something you see every day.

If you're not quite ready to cross into bak kwa dessert territory, Caketella also offers more classic flavours this CNY:

  • Golden Churn Butter Cookie – RM44
  • Sea Salt Almond Orange – RM33
  • Valrhona Choc Chip Crunch – RM33

You can get the Bak Kwa Iberico Choc Chip cookies on Caketella or Wing Heong.
